Lucy pulled her arms tighter against his torso, hands gripping tighter into the fabric of his shirt as she listened to Natsu breathe out a soft hum. The words were there, everything she needed to say in a simple sentence that she wanted to show him.
But it clogged at the bottom of her throat. Her lips remained sealed together, not moving as her mind echoed them louder as he smoothed down her blonde hair. It felt right. Yet, she couldn’t push it out. The fear in her gut pulling it back down before she could spew it up in a nervous jumble.
Her brown eyes prickled with tears she refused to shed as her heart hammered in her chest. She had never imagined it would be so hard to tell someone that she loved them. And she feared that she never could.
